Scripture: Psalm 43 (NASB)
1 Vindicate me, God, and plead my case against an ungodly nation;
Save me from the deceitful and unjust person!
2 For You are the God of my strength; why have You rejected me?
Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
3 Send out Your light and Your truth, they shall lead me;
They shall bring me to Your holy hill
And to Your dwelling places.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
To God my exceeding joy;
And I will praise You on the lyre, God, my God.
5 Why are you in despair, my soul?
And why are you restless within me?
Wait for God, for I will again praise Him
For the help of His presence, my God.

Devotional: Led by His Light and Truth
Psalm 43 is a brief but powerful cry for guidance, justice, and renewal. The psalmist feels overwhelmed by opposition and sorrow, yet he doesn’t give in to despair—he calls on God to send His light and truth to lead him.
This is the key to hope in the dark: when we can’t find our way, God’s presence lights the path and His truth gives us direction. In verse 4, the psalmist looks forward with confidence:
“Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy.”
Even when emotions are low, God is still our joy. The psalm ends with a familiar reminder:
“Wait for God, for I will again praise Him.”
Whatever you face today, remember—God’s light will lead you, His truth will steady you, and His joy will fill you again.
