Scripture: Psalm 44:1–3, 6–8, 26 (NASB)
1 God, we have heard with our ears,
Our fathers have told us
The work that You did in their days,
In the days of old.
2 You with Your own hand drove out the nations;
Then You planted them;
You afflicted the peoples,
Then You let them go free.
3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your presence,
For You favored them.
6 For I will not trust in my bow,
Nor will my sword save me.
7 But You have saved us from our enemies,
And You have put to shame those who hate us.
8 In God we have boasted all day long,
And we will give thanks to Your name forever. Selah
26 Rise up, be our help,
And redeem us because of Your mercy.
Devotional: Trusting God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
Psalm 44 is a raw and honest prayer. The psalmist remembers how God fought for His people in the past, how victories came not by their strength, but by God’s power and presence. But now, they feel abandoned, defeated, and confused.
Even in their confusion and suffering, the psalmist declares:
“I will not trust in my bow… but You have saved us.”
This is the kind of faith that holds on to what’s true, even when life feels upside down—a faith that says, “God, I don’t understand right now, but I still trust You.”
The final verse is a humble cry for help:
“Rise up, be our help… and redeem us because of Your mercy.”
It reminds us that our hope isn’t in perfect circumstances but in God’s unfailing mercy.
Encouragement for Today:
If today feels heavy or uncertain, keep trusting God. He hasn’t forgotten you. His mercy still holds you. He has been faithful before, and He will be faithful again.
Take a deep breath—you’re not alone. You will make it through today.
May the Lord be with you.
Prayer:
Lord, even when I don’t understand, I choose to trust You. You are my help and my hope. Remind me of Your past faithfulness and give me strength to keep moving forward today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now go and face the day with courage—God’s mercy goes with you.
