Scripture: Psalm 46:1–3, 10–11 (NASB)
1 God is our refuge and strength,
A very ready help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth shakes
And the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah
10 “Stop striving and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted on the earth.”
11 The Lord of armies is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah
Devotional: God Is Our Refuge and Strength
Psalm 46 is a powerful reminder that God is always present, especially in times of chaos and uncertainty. The psalmist doesn’t pretend life is easy—he acknowledges that the earth may shake and the waters may roar. But even in the middle of all that, “we will not fear” (v.2), because God is our refuge.
Verse 10 invites us to pause and remember who’s in control:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
When life feels out of control, this verse reminds us to stop striving, stop worrying, and simply trust. God is exalted over everything, and He is with us—not far off, not indifferent, but present and powerful.
Encouragement for Today:
Let God’s peace anchor your heart today—and let that peace overflow to others. Be an example of Christ’s love by showing calm in chaos, grace in tension, and kindness in a world that’s hurting. Someone around you needs to see Jesus through you today.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my refuge and strength. Help me to be still and trust You, no matter what comes my way. Fill me with Your peace and love, and help me to reflect Christ to everyone I encounter today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now go and be a steady light in a shaking world—be an example of Christ’s love today.
