Scripture: Psalm 56:3–4, 8–11 (NASB)
3 When I am afraid,
I will put my trust in You.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
8 You have taken account of my miseries;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
9 Then my enemies will turn back on the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
In the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can mankind do to me?

Devotional: Trusting God When You’re Afraid
Psalm 56 is a powerful declaration of trust in God during fearful times. David is surrounded by enemies and feeling the pressure of constant threats. Yet in the middle of it all, he makes a choice:
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.”
Fear is real—but so is God’s presence and power. David doesn’t pretend he’s not afraid. Instead, he takes his fear and places it in God’s hands.
Verse 8 is especially comforting:
“You have taken account of my miseries; put my tears in Your bottle.”
This tells us that God sees every tear, every worry, every sleepless night. He doesn’t overlook our pain—He collects it, remembers it, and cares deeply for us.
When you feel overwhelmed, remember verse 9:
“This I know, that God is for me.”
Let that truth carry you today—God is for you. He hears your cry. He holds your tears. And He is worthy of your trust.

Prayer:
Lord, when I am afraid, help me to trust in You. Thank You for seeing my struggles and collecting every tear. Strengthen my heart today to walk in confidence, knowing You are for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now go and face today with courage—because you’re not alone, and your God is for you.
