Scripture: Psalm 59:1–2, 9–10, 16–17 (NASB)
1 Rescue me from my enemies, my God;
Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me.
2 Rescue me from those who practice injustice,
And save me from men of bloodshed.
9 Because of his strength I will watch for You,
For God is my refuge.
10 My God in His faithfulness will meet me;
God will let me look triumphantly upon my enemies.
16 But as for me, I will sing of Your strength;
Yes, I will joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the morning,
For You have been my refuge
And a place of refuge on the day of my distress.
17 My strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my refuge, the God who shows me favor.

Devotional: God Is My Fortress
Psalm 59 is a prayer written in a time of danger. David was literally surrounded—his enemies were outside his home. But instead of giving in to fear, he turned his eyes to God, his fortress.
Again and again, David declares:
“God is my refuge.”
Not just in theory—but in real, pressing trouble. David had every reason to panic, but instead, he chose to praise. He said,
“I will sing of Your strength… I will joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the morning.”
That’s the power of trust in God: it turns fear into worship and worry into strength.
Even when enemies are near, God’s presence is nearer still. He meets us with faithfulness, surrounds us with favor, and strengthens us to keep going.
⸻
Encouragement for Today:
No matter what comes against you, remember—God is your fortress. You are not alone. His faithfulness meets you right where you are.
Let His strength be your song today. Be an example of Christ’s love and peace in how you carry yourself, how you speak, and how you trust.
⸻
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my refuge and strength. Even when life feels overwhelming, I know You are near. Help me to trust You, praise You, and reflect Your love to others today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now go and face the day with confidence—your God is your fortress, and His love surrounds you.
